European Steppe Plant Life
Steppes contain a vast majority of plant life. The plants found in Steppes are beautiful plants that grow during the growing season. Since a steppe is another name for grassland,grass has become the dominant vegetation there. Besides grass, other plants like flowers, fruit, shrubs and fruit live here. Except trees and certain shrubs are very hard to find here because of climate and wildfires. Below are three different types of plants that are located in European Steppes.
Blue bunch wheat grass
A type of grass that is found in Temperate Grasslands is blue bunch wheat grass. Bluebunch wheat grass is one of the most common grasses in Steppes. It is a perennial plant meaning that it can live up to seven years, but lasts over a season. The grass is a mixed grass only reaching three feet in height.
Fringed Sagebrush
The fringed sagebrush is a woody shrub containing silver and yellow leaves. Fringed sagebrush’s are also known to be called sagebrush. As a physical description the flowers on these plants are small. They are also able to grow between 4 to 16 inches in height. Fringed sagebrush’s grow in both cold and dry conditions. These shrubs are used for livestock and as nests for some of the birds living in Steppes.
Sweet Vernal
Sweet Vernal is one of the scarcest plants in European Temperate Grasslands. The Sweet Vernal is also known as the Pheasants Eye and False Hellborne. Sweet Vernal grows in between southeast Sweden and Southern Europe. These plants are one of the most common plants located in Steppes. The plants bloom in early spring and are a annual plant, meaning they only live for a season before death. As a physical description, the colors of the petals on these plants are golden and have been known to have a buttercup glow. The leaves on this plant are very delicate and can break easily if not taken care of properly. Sweet Vernal is a plant that is also used for medicine. They are an ingredient for a remedy used chronic heart problems and as a tranquilizer. Due to environmental issues the plant has now become scarce. These flowers have also become rare dot to legal protection.
